25 May 2020: Memorial Day
It has been one of those ‘finicky’ weeks in the studio. I had created both the biped and the pedal assembly. This week the task has been to get them to operate smoothly together. Finally, mission accomplished. I had to do major biped surgery. Had to move his thighs about 3/4″ further apart.
In the end he pedals very smoothly. Now it’s time to create his permanent seat and the cowl that will proceed him.
Today is Memorial Day. I am a Vietnam Vet. I’m glad to be able to say that the Vietnam experience for me was not a particularly negative experience. And as a nation we have fought wars since then…in fact still are. Sometimes I wonder what would happen if all soldiers in the world would simply refuse to fight? It is my belief that human nature would find other ways to fight…we cannot help ourselves.
As I evaluate my relationship with my country (the USA) I have to remind myself that I am always in the minority and that I must be tolerant and let others be who they are. Our government is a compromise. It will never be perfect. There will always be greed and hate. On the other hand, we have tolerance for love, selflessness, charity, learning, freedoms of religion and speech and we can vote for those that serve us in the government, In spite of all that is wrong there is a lot that is right. We are fortunate.
